Philadelphia’s iconic KYW Newsradio is looking for a Program Director with a clear and unique vision to strategically propel it to new ratings, content and revenue levels while being informative, relevant and entertaining. This position will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of an integrated digital and traditional radio newsroom.


Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Responsible for the total supervision, direction, and overall performance level of all station news personnel functions, with specific emphasis on program coordination and content

·         Ensures that programming is in and best serves the needs and interests of the station audiences

·         Responsible for adherence and compliance to Company program standards and FCC regulations

·         Establishes and communicates programming and content goals and vision, and then clearly measures their results

·         Protects the KYW Newsradio brand

·         Establishes long range plans

·         Enhances format effectively

·         Provides programming leadership in a sales-friendly environment

·         Develops and effectively manages department budget

·         Uses promotional strengths of the radio station to help achieve corporate goals

·         Provides rating analysis and reporting

·         Oversee and execute station branding and imaging

·         Recruits and critiques talent and measures performance

·         Develops and communicates a philosophy and strategy for daily news coverage including breaking news, in depth coverage, on-air presentation and website/social media coverage

·         Maintains on-going communications with external industry and public organizations

·         Supervises use of any syndicated and/or outside services.

·         Coaches air-talent on how to write, produce, and tell  stories in interesting, memorable ways

·         Supports and understands digital delivery platforms including measurement and best practices

·         Support of a platform-agnostic newsroom to position KYW Newsradio for growth and success

·         Works cooperatively with other departments including, digital, on and off-air promotions, sales, engineering and business office

·         Manages listener relations/communication

·         Manages relationships with programming vendors

·         Maintains relationship with SAG-AFTRA and understands requirements of agreements

·         Supervises all department staff


  • College degree with a related field
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in programming management
  • A thorough knowledge of news coverage and operations
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to a changing environment
  • Can-do attitude with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and do any task required to grow an audience – no matter how big or small
Knowledge of FCC rules, geographical demographics and familiarity with broadcast area required
